This is what some call natural. Most chickens do not weigh more than 3 pounds. Most do not live longer than two months. In 1925 it took 11.75 pounds of food for a chicken to grow to 2.5 pounds in 112 days, in which the chicken then went to slaughter. Today it takes 11.43 pounds of food for a chicken to grow to 6.18 pounds in 47 days in which the chicken then goes to slaughter. Poultry advocates also like to celebrate the mortality rate from 1925 to 2017. In 1925 the mortality rate was 18%, compared to today’s 4.4%. These numbers are not fair comparisons considering these birds once lived 112 days and now only live 47 days. Capitalism sees each of us as commodities. When you support capitalism, you support the oppression of all animals, including yourself.
